Shardul Frey

Shardul is Co-Founder and CTO of Yolando, where he designed and built the platform's technical stack from scratch.

Before Yolando, he was an ML engineer at Loblaw Companies on PC Optimum, Canada's largest domestic commercial ML product with 20 million daily active users. Before that, three years at KPMG building real-time signal detection on market data for some of the country's largest funds by AUM: streaming architectures, feature engineering at tick-level granularity, and production ML in an environment where latency had a dollar sign attached to it.

At BirdseyePost, Yolando's sister company where the platform was originally incubated, he architected the audience targeting system — a pipeline that ingests billions of behavioral signals in real-time to drive direct mail campaigns with millions in attributed revenue. That system is where a lot of the design instincts behind Yolando were pressure-tested.

He co-founded Yolando with CEO Matt Bogoroch and COO Adam Bogoroch. He's a believer that the best products come from engineers who sit  close to customers — you'll find him in sales calls, customer interviews, and the #wins channel before standup. The engineering team was recently recognized by Weave as one of the top five globally by output.

Shardul holds an Honours B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from Western University and is based in Toronto.

Outside of work, you can find him at the beach playing volleyball or on the mountain skiing — but you won't find him one week a year, when he disappears off-grid into the brush for some low-tech bushwacking.
