Topics & Prompts

Dec 8, 2024

This is where you move from the high-level "what" to the granular "why." The Topics & Prompts page allows you to analyze your performance for every single prompt you track, giving you the detailed evidence you need to inform your AEO strategy.

Why This Page Matters:

  • Pinpoint Strengths and Weaknesses: Identify exactly which topics you dominate and which specific prompts are causing your discoverability to lag.

  • Understand the "Why": By drilling down into individual prompt executions, you can see the exact AI response that generated your score, providing clear context for your metrics.

  • Validate Your Data: See the raw output, citations, and mention details for every single test Yolando runs, giving you full transparency into your data.

Metric Definitions

For detailed definitions, formulas, and explanations of all metrics mentioned here (like Discoverability and Share of Voice), please refer to our Yolando Glossary.

Understanding the Page Structure: Topics & Prompts

The main view is organized by Topic, allowing you to expand each topic to see the performance of the individual prompts within it. The prompts are separated into two key tabs:

  • Unbranded Prompts: Shows the results for prompts that do not mention your brand name. This is where you measure Discoverability, Share of Voice, and Citation Rate.

    • Example: For a brand like Nike, an unbranded prompt would be: "best running shoes for marathon training."

  • Branded Prompts: Shows the results for prompts that do mention your brand name. This is where you measure Reputation.

    • Example: For Nike, branded prompts would be questions like: "are Nike running shoes good for flat feet?" or a direct comparison like "Nike Pegasus vs. Brooks Ghost."

Managing Your Inputs

Remember, this page shows you the results. To add, pause, or edit the prompts themselves, click the Manage Prompts button to go to the Prompt Manager in the Knowledge Base section.

Drilling Down Into Individual Prompt Executions

This page is designed for drilling down. You can follow a three-step path to go from a topic-level metric to the raw data behind it.

Step 1: Expand a Topic to View Its Prompts

The main table initially shows you a summary of your performance for each Topic. Use this to identify which broad areas need more investigation.

  • Each topic in the main table is an expandable container. Click on a topic to reveal all the individual prompts grouped within it.

  • This expanded view displays the key metrics for each prompt, allowing you to quickly compare the performance of related questions and identify which ones are driving the topic's overall score.

Step 2: Drill Down to the Prompt Level

Once you have expanded a topic and identified a specific prompt you want to investigate further, hover over it and click View Details. This will take you to the Prompt Details Page, which includes:

  • Dedicated Metrics: A view of your Discoverability, Share of Voice, and other metrics for that specific prompt only.

  • Executions Table: A list of every single time that prompt was run on an AI platform.

  • Citations Table: A dedicated view of all the web sources cited by the AI in response to that prompt across all its executions.

Step 3: Examine a Single Prompt Execution

To see the raw source of truth, hover over any individual execution in the table and click View Details. This opens the Prompt Execution Details Page, where you will find:

  • The Full AI Response: The complete, raw text exactly as it was generated by the AI platform.

  • Execution Metadata: The specific AI platform, model, date, and time of the run.

  • Analyzed Data: A breakdown of all brand mentions, their position in the text, and any citations that were found.

Exporting Your Data

For advanced or custom analysis, you can export all of the raw prompt execution data from the main Topics & Prompts page.

  • Click the Export to CSV button.

  • A CSV file containing all the data from every prompt run within your filtered view will be downloaded. This is perfect for use in tools like Excel or Google Sheets for creating custom reports.
